Hanabi received the teachings of the Scarlet Shadow Ninja sect’s Supreme Grandmaster from a young age, exhibiting natural talent that far exceeded any of her peers, until she met a young shadow ninja called Hayabusa. This was the very first time the proud Hanabi came across anyone who could hold their own against her.
Whenever the moon was full, Hanabi would try to find ways to provoke this young shadow ninja into dueling with her, however, she could never defeat this youngster, who fused spiritualism with shadow techniques to create a unique and powerful style.
As the two of them slowly grew up together, it begun to dawn on Hanabi that this young shadow ninja carried the burden of an inescapable fate. Hayabusa was in fact destined to challenge and kill the Legendary former Shadow of Iga for his betrayal of his clan. After the two ninjas fought, Hayabusa would lied on the ground, staring at the full moon in the sky, the reflection of the moonlight in his eyes quietly burning in Hanabi’s heart. Having never felt this kind of feeling before, Hanabi became very distressed.
Whenever she saw Hayabusa and the young spiritualist girl known as Kagura smiling and laughing as they greeted each other, her heart would fill with inexplicable rage and vexation. When she heard that Hayabusa would become the Clan’s next Shadow, she decided to take on the name Scarlet, and from the scarlet vault of the Supreme Grandmaster, she stole her sect’s forbidden weapon --- Higanbana. Hanabi decided that she challenge her age-old rival to one final competition, and now her one aim in life is to find and kill the disgraced former Shadow before Hayabusa does.
In Japanes Japanese translation, Hanabi (花火) means fireworks. This reflects to the effects of her ultimate skill. Every year from July to August you will hear and see fireworks all around Japan. These summer fireworks are called hanabi. "Hana" means flower and "bi" means fire, so the word roughly translates to "fire flowers" or "flower-shaped fire". |
Hanabi's weapon resembles a Chakram, and it's name, Higanbana, refers to the Red Spider Lily flower, the same one that appears when executing her Ultimate. It can be noticed the similarity with Karina's "Spider Lily" skin. |
Although both her default and Resplendent Iris skins have her portrait show her full face, her character's model has her face partially covered with a black mask. |
She is inspired by Coco from Magic Rush. |
Hanabi's skin Fiery Moth, together with other insect skin of heroes, like Odette's Butterfly Goddess, Karrie's Bladed Mantis, Miya's Modena Butterfly, Selena's Wasp Queen and Lunox's Butterfly Seraphim. |
Hanabi's skin Viper, together with other snake skins of heroes, like Vexana's Toxic Kiss, Natalia's Deadly Mamba and Khufra Apophis. |
Hanabi's painted skin Emerald Viper, together with other emerald skins of heroes, like Eudora's Emerald Enchantress, Yu Zhong's Emerald Dragon and Gatotkaca's Steeler. |
Rakshesha (रक्षेषा) means "Defense" in Indian language. |
She is one of the members of the "Order of the Scarlet Shadow" faction. |
Hanabi is rather an ego-maniac, showing her determination in being dominant in everything she excels in. This shows through her performance as a young martial arts trainee wherein she aims to be the best, and in her fury upon losing to Hayabusa and Kagura. Hayabusa, in which she does not accept defeat at losing against him and purposely provokes him into dueling her (where she never wins). Kagura, in where Hanabi is unable to fathom not having the same relationship as with her and Hayabusa, that she reforms her jealousy into rage that motivates her to outplay Hayabusa by defeating his target before he has a chance to.
Hanabi is the strongest female ninja, having lost to none except to both the current and former shadow.
Despite her attitude and self-confidence, she admits to having a soft spot for cute things as well. It maybe a small jab at hinting different opinions on Kagura, or an attempt to appear as a soft person.
"I don't wanna lose to that snot-nosed shadow." refers to her shadow-role rival Hayabusa. |
"Just show me an umbrella and see what happens to you." refers to Kagura, her rival for Hayabusa's affection. Both this rivalries are shown in her background and official motion comic. |
Alongside Kagura and Hanzo, Hanabi's ultimSimilar to Hayabusa, she also refers to another ninja ("Seen any other ninja around here?"). She presumably refers to Hanzo, as he is her target.ate quote is one of the only quotes in the game that is in a different language (Japanese). |
Although, "Higanbana" is not necessarily a Japanese quotation, but rather, a flower. Her Quote in the Japanese version, "Manjushage"" also shares the same meaning with her quote "Higanbana" in English version. |
Regarding that, Hanabi's death line is "Where.. is he?", is a direct reference to her dedicated search/hunt for Hanzo. She shares this death line with Carmilla and Odette's death line. Odette's refers to Lancelot while Carmilla's references Cecilion. |
V.E.N.O.M. LORE of Hanabi
|
Her V.E.N.O.M. Series skin has a specific line wherein she says "Assassination is my way of missing you, my dear brother." which refers to her brother in the alternate universe named Mike who died in a suicide-bombing incident with S.A.B.E.R. |
